Applying for a work permit in Canada can seem daunting, but it’s actually not that difficult. In this post we’ll break down the steps to applying for a Canadian work permit so you can get started on your dream job! This guide will walk you through the process of getting a work permit in Canada and help you avoid potential pitfalls along the way.
Step One: Getting a Temporary Residence Visa (TRV) for Canada
To get your work visa, you’ll first need to apply for and receive a temporary residence visa. This is also known as an TRV or ‘eTA’. Here are the steps to getting your TRV: – Get Started by visiting CIC’s (Citizenship and Immigration Canada) website. – Complete an Electronic Travel Authorization Application Form. – Provide your passport details, contact information, flight itinerary to Canada in case of emergencies as well as the date you’ll be departing from that country.
Step Two: Getting Your Work Permit From CIC
The next step is to apply for a work permit from CIC.
– You’ll need the following documents: Proof that you can support yourself financially, confirmation of your education or job offer in Canada and proof of qualifications (i.e., government issued references). – Fill out form E1442 on the Citizenship and Immigration website. – Submit this form with the other required documentation to your local CIC office.
– You’ll then need to pay a processing fee of $155 CAD for each work permit application. – Read the instructions on how long it will take before you can expect to hear back from CIC and keep in mind that they may ask for more information if needed.
– It’s possible that you’ll be approved right away or, alternatively, they may ask for more information to complete your application. – If the latter is true, don’t worry! You can provide what CIC needs in order to process your work permit and submit it again later on.
Step Three: Getting Your Work Permit From IRCC
After your application is approved, you’ll need to get your work permit from the Immigration and Refugee Canada (IRCC). – Fill out form IMM1442A. This can be done online or in-person. – You’ll pay another processing fee of $155 CAD for this service using an e-Transfer. – You’ll need to provide your passport number, date of birth and contact information as well as any other additional documentation IRCC requests in order for you to get a work permit.
– You can expect it to take anywhere from one week up until two months or more before you receive your approved work visa on this form.
– If you have any questions, the IRCC website has lots of information that can help.
Step Four: Getting Your Work Permit From CIC and Traveling to Canada
Once your work visa is approved from both CIC and IRCC, you’ll need to get a new travel document called an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) from CIC. – Fill out form ETA-application to request your eTA by providing the following information: contact information, date of birth, passport number and citizenship status.
– You’ll have to pay a processing fee for this service using an e-Transfer ($11 CAD). – Once you receive confirmation that your application for this visa is approved, you’ll be able to travel to Canada.
– If your application is denied or if CIC needs more information for their approval, don’t worry! You can reapply and provide what they need in order for them to process an eTA again later on.
