If you are on visitor visa and staying in Canada and your visa is expiring soon, you can apply for the extension of your Visitor Visa and continue staying in Canada.
The Documents Needed
When you enter Canada as a visitor, you have to show one of these documents to make the entry:
♦ A visitor’s visa (also known as temporary resident visa)
♦ A valid passport or travel document
♦ An electronic travel authorization (eTA)
And if your visitor’s visa is expiring soon and you want to stay in Canada for longer time for any valid reasons, you need to apply for a visitor record (which is not a visa).
A visitor visa is a kind of document that validate your extended stay in Canada. It gives you a visitor’s status and allows you to stay longer. This document comes with a new expiry date which means you can stay in Canada till that date and you need to leave before or on that date.
When should you apply for the Visitor’s Record?
At Choice Immigration, we recommend you applying for the visitor’s visa a month prior to the expiration of your visitor’s visa. This not only keeps you safe but also increase your chances of approval. If you apply just on time, the things get delayed and you may have to leave before your Visitor Record arrives.
Can you leave and re-enter Canada with Visitor’s Record?
Please note that a visitor’s record doesn’t guarantee your re-entry to Canada once you leave the country. It is only meant to allow you to extend your stay in Canada for a short period of time. If you leave Canada, you won’t be able to return back just on the basis of Visitor’s Record.
