If you’ve submitted an “Interest to Sponsor” form for the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP), keep an eye on your inbox. From May 21st, Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has started sending invitations to apply (ITAs) to sponsors.
IRCC plans to send 35,700 invitations over two weeks to approve 20,500 complete permanent residence (PR) applications. ITAs will be sent to the email you provided when filling out the “Interest to Sponsor” form.
Who can expect an invitation for the 2024 Parents and Grandparents Program?
If you’re excited about the possibility of sponsoring your parents or grandparents, here’s what you need to know to be eligible for an invitation this year:
- 1) First, you should have filled out an IRCC’s “Interest to Sponsor form” in 2020.
- 2) If you have already done that, you must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a registered Indian under the Canadian Indian Act. You also need to be at least 18 years old.
- 3) You must be currently living in Canada and will need to show proof of your status when the time comes.
- 4) Now, let’s talk about income. To qualify, you must show enough income to support your sponsored family. If you’re married or in a common-law relationship, you can include your partner’s income, too.
- 5) Lastly, you’ll need to sign an undertaking. This means you promise to financially support your sponsored family members for 20 years (or 10 years if you’re in Quebec) from the day they become permanent residents. If applicable, you’ll also have to repay any social assistance benefits they receive during this time.
If you meet all these requirements, keep your eyes on that invitation!
What’s next after receiving an invitation to apply (ITA) for the Parents and Grandparents Program?
- 1) Check your invitation email for the deadline for submitting your application. Make sure to respond with a complete application before this date.
- 2) Get your wallet ready! You’ll need to pay the application fees when you submit your application. These fees typically start at CAD 1,205.
- 3) Please take your time reading through the instruction guide provided by IRCC carefully. This will help you prepare your application package correctly.
- 4) Double-check your application to ensure it’s complete, accurate, and matches the information you provided in your “Interest to Sponsor” form. Incomplete, late, or incorrect applications can lead to complications or even rejection.
- 5) Submit your application through the PR portal. If you’re working with immigration agents, they can submit it on your behalf. Choice Immigration Services is the Leading Immigration Agency in Edmonton, taking care of all your Canadian immigration matters.
Remember, IRCC will return your application if:
- – You forgot to include some required documents or information
- – You didn’t pay the necessary fees
- – You missed the deadline mentioned in your ITA email
- – You applied without receiving an ITA
- – The information in your application doesn’t match what you provided in your “Interest to Sponsor” form
So, take your time, be thorough, and submit your application before the deadline. If you have any questions, Contact Choice Immigration Services, the Best Immigration Agent in Edmonton.
